BARRETT'S ESOPHAGUS



  • It is a condition in which there is an abnormal(metaplastic) change in the mucosal cells lining the lower portion of the esophagus
  • From normal stratified squamous epithelium to simple columnar epithelium
  • It is a premalignant condition(esophageal adenocarcinoma)


CLINICAL FEATURE:

  1. Heart burn
  2. Dysphagia
  3. Hematemesis
  4. weight loss


Diagnosis:

  • Endoscopy
MANAGEMENT


  • Esophagectomy
  • Endoscopic mucosal resection
